I'm going to go on Newegg today and look at components with my friend as he's tired of bumming around with his dying Mac. Here's what I'm thinking of getting him, his budget is about $1000. Should be around his max budget mark with shipping.
Get a seagate HD, they're very good and slightly quieter than WD ones. Also get a dvd drive from Philips, Sony, Plextor or Liteon etc, they'll have more advanced burning options.
I chose Hitachi not WD Got good reviews so it should work well for him. So long as he can burn DVD's and CD's he'll be happy. He's pretty new to computers so I don't think he'll miss any of the bells and whistles but thanks anyway.
