Please let me know what you think of this parts list, I've picked out some that I think will work well together, but im an artist not a techie so before i go and buy them i'd like to run em by you guys first and see what you think. This computer will be used primarily for working with software like Blender, Maya, and After Effects. I want something that will perform well for this, but i'm fairly short on cash too. Parts list Case: T6027 10-Bay ATX Mid Tower HDD:hitachi deskstar 7k3000 PSU: Someone please make a recommendation here, I have no idea! Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 LE LGA 1155 CPU: i7-2600 or 2600k RAM: PNY 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHZ DIMM (x2 = 8GB) Graphics card: ATI Radeon 5450 (because i already have this) and i intend to run windows 7 on it will this perform well with my software? am i missing anything? what is an appropriate low-cost psu? I know the graphics card is not the best, would it make a big difference to upgrade it? any other recommendations? thanks!
Hi, I think this setup should do well for what you want. You might see better performance if you buy a workstation card (nvidia quadro or ati fire gl), however when I tried a fire gl in my computer I really didnt notice a difference in Maya with it. I currently use an hd3870 in my Lightwave/zbrush/After effects setup and it does fine. I found more of a benefit of increasing my RAM and getting a quad core CPU than I did video. Your setup looks like it should do well for you. For the power supply, I would get one (a branded one) that is maybe 450-500watts in size. I use a PC power and cooling power supply in one pc (since 2007) and a thermaltake toughpower (since 2006) in my other computer. I found this one at newegg.com which should work for you and is of good quality http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...k=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=2 If you do not like that one, you can check out Big B's sticky in the power supply forum for other good quality brand names to choose from as well.
The case is very cheap, and I know you're probably not looking to spend a lot of money on it but that case has very bad air flow. And the 80mm fans are going to be very noisy. I would highly recommend this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146075 it has much better air flow and you can purchase more fans down the road. Since you'll be using your computer for 3D production you're going to want a case with good air flow. The HDD you picked out seems a little to good to be true as HDD prices have sky rocketed because of the flooding in Tailand, be careful with that one. Now with the CPU it really depends, the 2600 should be just fine for what you want to do, the 2600k is for people that want to overclock the CPU. I'm not sure if those are your intentions, but if you do want to OC than go with the 2600k. I would recommend you get away from 10666 RAM, for 3D production you should be using 1600 like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144486 .This is a great deal, best bang for your buck! Your GPU should be fine for now, though you may want to upgrade it later. The motherboard looks good to. For the power supply, I just need to know how many hard drives you'll be using. I saw that you picked out a case that has 10 drive bays... not sure how many you plan on using. Let me know so I can help you pick one out.
Yes I personally have the NZXT Phantom and I love it. My cousin has Source 210 Elite he loves his too. NZXT makes very sturdy and dependable products, I highly recommend them.
