Hi, newbie here, hope you guys can help. So I recently bought this Antec VERIS Multimedia Station Premier - Infrared: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo . Upon recieving the device, I hastened to install it and install it I did. I'm very well versed in computer hardware and despite the extremely lacking documentaion on how to install the device (a couple of pages with very simple instructions, would have made it very hard to follow if I didn't know about the insides of my computer or my moterboard), got everything connected as needed. Now, this thing had a 24pin pass through connector to the PSU... essentially, a small connection to the device, connected to the 24pin passthrough which would then bridge the PSU back to the motheboard. All this so the device could still get power when the system was off (so the remote can turn it on and it can still give a display for the time or what have you). It also had a few other connections, but nothing too troubling (connection to the front panel connector on the mobo and another passthrough for the power switch so I could use the device to turn the computer on). So I plug the PC back in (didn't replace the sides of the case yet, also didn't connect any peripherals, including the screen, just wanted to see if it powered up without a problem), and switch on the PSU. Immediately the device lights up, so I know that's at least getting power okay. Then I power the PC up... and we get smoke. The wire going from the device to the 24pin passthrough was getting very hot and emenated smoke (there were 3 wires, the midde black one was smoking). I immediately switched the PC off, unplugged it and removed the device. Said smoking wire is partially melted. I've now sent the device back and asked for a replacement (I'm yet to hear from them). But I'm wondering, was this something I'd done? As far as I can tell, I followed the badly worded instructions to letter, but I don't know if perhaps my PSU was giving it to much power (it shouldn't...) or there was a loose connection or what. To me, connecting the device through the 24pin power connecor seems like a bit much, but other people seem to be using this device no problem with the same setup. Again, it didn't start smoking until I'd turned the PC itself on, it was fine just on standby getting power from the PSU. I'd like to point out, my PC is fine, runs just as it did before, so happily no frying of mobo's. I know there's not a lot of info here (despite the tl;dr length), but do any of you think this was my fault, or was it a manufacturing fault? P.S. Apologies for any typos, on an unrelate note, I'd just had to replace my laptop and I'm still getting used to the new keyboard.
