hi can anyone explain CMOS to me and the purpose of it of why is it there. I find it quite good as there is a lot of things you can type in there, like what spec your cpmputer is, what operating system you're using.

Does anyone of you know what other commads are usefull in cmos. thanks

There are no real 'commands' that you can execute, the data held in the by the CMOS battery are held in EEPROM memory and are just the settings for your computer. I think you probably mean the BIOS (basic input output system) which is the user interface.

Every motherboard/chipset has different settings due to the inherent differences between the architectures, so the best place to start is your Mobo manual.

EDIT - general rule of thumb unless your an overclocker/uber geek with the bios - if it ain't broke don't go near it

By CMOS, do you mean command, or CMD?

Both are typically black windows with white text. You can execute programs from within them, so the available commands depend on the software you have. Eg, if you have a file called setup in C:\. Type 'setup' and press enter, and setup will run.
