On one of my older systems I am looking at doing a memory upgrade...it currently has 256 mb of ddr333. I happen to have two sticks of 512 mb ddr400 laying around. I couldn't find the actual motherboard model, but I remember it being an MSI board, so i looked on their website and determined that it is one of these two:

    MSI KM4AM-V
    MSI KM4M-V

(the pictures for each one on the MSI website are identical)

the only difference between the two is that one can support ddr 400 and the other can only support ddr 333. since there is no real way that i know of to tell which model number it actually is, would it be a problem sticking ddr 400 in the motherboard, even if it is the one that can only support ddr333? if it can, would i have to change the clock speed from 400 to 333 in the BIOS?

Yes, you can use DDR 400 (PC3200) RAM speeds are like tire ratings in that they are the maximum speed it's guaranteed at. A tire rated for 150MPH will run fine at 40MPH. The same is true for RAM.
