Can`t record audio or use microphone

Hi this is my first post so bear with me as i try to explain my computer problem.I`m trying to record my old LP`s on to my computer;but after a week of pulling my hair out to no avail.I have connected the turntable and amp up correctly to the line in socket but when i try to record nothing happens.I have checked the volume levels and checked it is recording from line in.I also tried connecting it to the microphone socket but still nothing.Also the microphone does`nt work either.Please tell me it`s something stupid that i`m doing

hmmm, are you sure the line in is not muted? go to Control Panel > Sound & Audio Proerties > Sound Tab > Make sure "line in" is selected and the volume is high.
