Hi, for some reason my laptop only boots to the level where I have to enter Ctl Alt S or else if I enter F1 it asks me to insert a boot diskette, then I enter BIOS(Ctl Alt S) where I change the date & time since it dates back to 1999 and then enter the booting sequence since instead of booting to my C it starts at drive A. So I rearrange the 3 options... C - CDRom - A in that order. Then I save & exit and the computer brings me to my OS which is Win 2000 Pro & things work fine. That is until I shut it down and power-up then I have to go through the same procedure.. Could it be my mobo? The laptop is an old Eurocom 8mhz plugged in since the battery as been dead for quite a while. Regards, Claude
sounds like motherboard battery, the battery retains the bios settings when the laptop is switched off. you can change the battery your self if your willing to take apart the laptop
I had the feeling this might be it and I tried to get into the laptop but stopped since I did not want to use any force to open it..There is the door for the memory that is easily open but for some reason I cant open the rest. Took out all the little screws but failed to open the back of the laptop. Should I be forcing it a little bit more? An by the way thank you for the speedy reply.. Regards, Claude
make sure u take out every screw, just double check to make sure you aint missed any. yea they are quite tricky to get into. try lifting one corner of the laptop case and then switchin to the opposit corner, see if that makes it any easier. good luck
