I just put together a new computer and everything went smoothly until I got into the bios. I have a MSI 915P/G NEO2, and it will recognize the floppy and the hard drive, however my master cd drive, a liteon 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive, Model LTR-52327S, and my slave a NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Black, Model ND-3520A BK, were not found anywhere in the BIOS. But when I start it up the screen previous to the bios that flashes, shows the floppy, the hard drive, the liteon as the master and the nec as the slave. This screen the goes away quickly and I enter the bios. Ive tried them one at a time, changing the jumpers, and i tried them in cable select. Tried different cable, same story. If any one has any idea what I can do to get the bios to recognize the drives I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Interesting problem ... have you tried getting the latest BIOS flash from the motherboard's manufacturer? It is possible that the drives are newer than the factory BIOS, and that an updated BIOS may solve your problem. Also, are you able to use the drives to install an OS?

Make sure they're hooked up to the Blue IDE port, as it's run right off the ICH6 part of the 915P/G chipset. I could be wrong, but the two yellow IDE ports are using a third-party IDE chip that doesn't support IDE optical drives. Even if they do, you might have a problem installing Windows since I don't believe XP natively supports that IDE controller chip.
Failing that, clear CMOS, then make sure the Intel IDE controller is enabled in BIOS.

I had them in the wrong IDE slot, stupid mistake. Now the drives are recognized and show up. However when I try to load windows I come up with this message:
File Vga.sys caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 3138 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c.
Could this have something to do with what you said about windows maybe not recognizing it, or this another issue? And what exactly do oyu mean by clearing the cmos? Thanks for the help!!!!!!

Is this a clean install of Windows? Or did you just go and swap motherboards out? If it's the latter, I highly suggest you do a clean format (of your C: drive/partition). If it's the former, try doing a repair install of Windows---essentially installing the OS over itself (you pretty much follow the same steps, but you don't format anything and install the OS to the same directory you did the first time through).
Clearing CMOS sets the BIOS back to it's factory default settings. This can be done by moving the ClearCMOS jumper (see your motherboard manual for the location) to the position (usually pins 2-3, from 1-2) for a few seconds (with the system off and the power supply unplugged) or by removing the CMOS battery for a bit. However, I don't see this as being necessary now that the IDE drives are on the correct IDE channel.

this is a clean install of windows. Everything is brand new. I did try to switch the jumpers, I did that before i found out that it wasnt in the right spot. I went through the bios and pretty much set things the way MSI suggests, figuring if I need to I can change some things later. I set the boot sequence to read the cdrom drive first, put the windows cd in and reset the machine. The normal screen comes up and it goes through the hardware check but then gets stuck at the vga.sys error. Ive tried three times now, all with the same result. Any ideas?
