Ok then after getting my Athlon pc working again all that was left to do was test it by installing some games. I installed one 3d heavy game but when i tried to start it it told me that i had no 3d hardware! I checked the display and it couldn't find any adapter. So i installed the nvidia drivers that used to work. Installation went fine and then i restarted... Gets past the XP loading screen and ... two black strips appear at the top like in the old movies and the middle part is a black but slightly flickering screen. Doesn't respond. So my only option was to start windows again under the last known good config. It worked and loaded but my GFX still wasn't being recognised. I'm really getting annoyed at this because i have a pretty good card (compared to the integrated one i've been using lately) and i can't use it for games. One other thing, when i'm looking at a folder with lots of files and i need to scroll down, the redraw rate is really slow. This happens also in wordpad documents. I'm guessing its the drivers not being installed. But if i install them i can't boot up, if i don't then i can't play games. Is there any other drivers for nvidia cards like there's omega drivers for ATi?
I tried the latest drivers and when i installed and restarted, it just did nothing after the xp bootup screen. Sometimes my monitor says that the signal is out of range. So i'm questioning my monitor now. Its an old 17" CTX CRT one.
hhumm,,.. You said, "Ok then after getting my Athlon pc working again,..." What was Wrong? and What did you do to fix it?
Got your chipset drivers installed? And yes, there are Omega drivers for nVidia cards (check the Omega site for them)
I got a new PSU. :good: Thanks B, i didn't think Omega would have them as i read that they stopped making drivers for nvidia cards. If this doesn't work then I'm going to install linux on the box, which distro would you recommend for most compatibility with software?
Installed Omega drivers and still didn't work. So I reinstalled XP by repairing hoping that it would install the generic drivers correctly. After 40 mins or so it was finished and i reinstalled the Omega drivers and... still didn't work. Getting stressed now because this didn't happen with my old mobo. Sometimes my monitor says signal out of range. Question: when it displays that does anyone know whether the actual PC carries on going, just the monitor unable to display, or does the whole thing stop? It may be that during XP bootup and it starts to use the nvidia drivers the refresh rate increases too much so the monitor can't display it.
The PC will still run, and carry on it's business. However, it will be rather difficult to input commands if you can't see anything (unless you've set it up with software to let you work on it from another computer).
Ok then I got my HD back from the RMA process, reinstalled XP SP1 and the latest Via hyperion 4in1 drivers. Then i tried to install the drivers for my card and it still didn't work. So i put in my old vanta-16 and then every time i reboot windows won't load up. So i put my 5900 back in but without drivers. This is seriously pissing me off since I wondering whether i should sell this good 5900 and get a cheap radeon instead.
hi m8 u should check your refresh rate of yoyr moniter and make sure your graphics card is set the same (u can change it through the utilities you get with it) also u tend to get more of of a leway with CRT moniters on refresh rate then TFT. Also if this does'nt work try disabling your onboard graphics card in bios (often in something like "intergrated pehiriples) and/or in hardware profiles. If the both of theese don't work remove the card and reseat it. Hope it helps Dave.
well m8 unless it somthing we are missing it sounds like your graphics card or another piece of hardware has a perminant fault. have you tried running your computer of your onboard graphics card? or checked for compability issues in hardware profile. hope it helps Dave.
My mobo doesn't have onboard graphics, and I'm pretty sure nothings faulty since this didn't happen with my old mobo. Maybe just a compatibility issue. I looked on the MS site and thought could getting DX 9.0c help?
