cd-rw and dvd rom problems

i turned my old pc on [have not used for a long time] to find the cd and dvd drives do not appare in my computer.
please help
 
Do they appear in the boot sequence or BIOS?
If they don't, i would open your computer up and make sure the Molex or IDE cables have not come loose or unplugged.
