I have a problem with my CD rewriter, it will write music to a cd through nero (v. occasionally it doesn't) but i can't seem to write data to a CD-R. It won't register the cd when i put it in the drive, it says to put a cd into drive. I'm using nero 6 and have got the most recent updates for it, but to no avail. The drive also won't allow me to erase/format (buttons aren't active) or add to a CD-RW, when i ask for disc info, it comes up as a CD-ROM - read only. Could the CD-R problem be due to incompatibility with the CD-R's (Datasafe 52x Speed), but if this was the case why would it write music to them??? I'm running windows 2000 professsional and the Cd drive is 52 speed but i'm not sure of the make. It's really starting to annoy me now. Any ideas??? Thanks, Rory PS oh yeah, the drive will read music cd's it has burnt and all other cd's with data/music on.
I would try a different CD-R media, like Memorex, Fujifilm, or Imation---all of which have worked fine for me on various burners.
I'll try different cd's but why would it copy music onto them and not data??? Also the CD-RW that i used was a BASF and i couldn't format, erase or add to it??? Thanks, Rory
I had a similar problem with my cd-rw. I was using Nero Express and when i accessed the drive through explorer it said "Incorrect function". I've still not found a solution apart from do a repair install of XP.
I know it seems a bit extreme but thats the only way i fixed mine. Yes a repair install is a reinstallation of windows. You put your disc in and boot from the cd. When it asks you what you want to do you install windows and then it should ask you wether you want to repair the existing installation. Its very similar to a clean install but all your programs and files should be preserved and your desktop should load normally.
