i have a few questions, i want to get a monitor for my new pc but i dont want to spend 2 much money, im planning on a crt and my question is, do old CRT's still work fine with new pc's, i could get an older CRT for free but i dont know if it will work with the new hardware that i have, if it is a problem, whats the best thing for me to do, thanks -hippie
CRT's have changed fairly slowly, there have been advances but what I'm using is easily a decade old and still produces a very good image and funtions just fine (stability wise). All you need is a DVI to VGA adaptor that your video card likely came with and you can use that CRT. Assuming it's 17" or more I'd go with it.
yeah ive gotten two crt monitors over the past builds my first was a ctx 17" brand from the thrift store that was 15 bucks worked fine just gave it to a relative with an older comp and my newest flat screen crt by samsung "Sync Master 753DF" for 20 so monitors have been good to me havent ever spent over 20 bucks on a monitor so i say go for it if it is in good condition
Yeah I'm using an old CRT, it's 14" and while isn't as bright as my TFT it's still good. I'm using them in a dual monitor setup and the CRT is probably 10+ years old...(It came from a 266MHz, 32MB PC83 RAM 4GB HDD system...) I use the CRT for general surfing and IM chatting and the TFT for videos/games (because it's brighter and the colours are slightly better) Go with a decent CRT though, you can pick up a good 19" one for very little money and while they take up more space, for gaming TFT's can't keep up with the picture quality of a decent CRT monitor...
