Hi, on another computer, when it is first turned on, at the bios screen, i think the diagnostic screen, i get this error message, i think it said, CMOS Checksum bad, defaults loaded, press F1 to enter bios, Press F2 to continue. My first thought is that the actual battery on the motherboard is discharged, but then sometimes this error does not come up, so maybe the battery is almost discharged, or something else is causing this problem. Any ideas guys? Thnks Will T
My laptop has the same problem sometimes, I just press F2 and it loads the default settings. Does your computer clock appear wrong straight after it? If so, it probably is battery that is dead.
yeah, it sound like the CMOS battery to me, the reason it doesn't do it all the time is: the batt probably has just enough power to keep BIOS setting for a short time (up to an hour "ish") but any longer than that the error will appear just replace batt
I replaced the battery with one out of my main pc, then problem with the clock went away, but still getting CMOS Checksum Error sometimes :\
right, go into BIOS (standard) and set "Halt On" to "no errors" its probably set on keyboard or VGA or both, i dont think its anything to worry about, just the BIOS has probably detected a problem before it exists, just remember this when you start having problems with keyboard or VGA, although its probably the keyboard but if its the keyboard controller when it dies just enable USB lagacy support and use a USB keyboard i think if the keyboard controller goes down i think the BIOS displays somthing about Gate A20
darn, i thought it was not the battery, becouse the battery that was causing the cmos checksum errors in the other computer did not appear to be causing them in my main computer, i got on the computer this morning, i got a cmos checksum error, it's no good using the halt on no errors for me, my overclock and all other settings got reset.
happens to me sumtimes when i overclock or sumthing and then have to reset my bios via jumper. it loadfs defaults and then the error doesnt appear after that.
