Come on guys, we need more folders. Currently Sniper and I are the only active folders on the team. I have been running 2 CPUs for around 6 months so I have been pulling my weight. Running Folding is not a big deal. It doesn't slow down your computer and it runs in the background. Why waste your uber l33t computing power while you're sleeping (I do understand that some of you do not sleep due to excessive consumption of Bawls, but that is only a few)? Anyways, I though a word of encouragment might help.
I've been folding non stop for the last three weeks, but this WU is HUGE. I've also had a few crashing problems with F@H and only just got it working again.
To be perfectly honest, I stopped a while ago. It seemed to be the thing to do at the time, and I do know a lot abot how the project works. But my main computer is my laptop, and running folding on that just isnt viable. 100% CPU load all the time just burns it (almost literally).
Nice concept, good cause but I don't have the bandwith available to participate. Remember that I have to share a standard broadband connection between 20 or so rooms
I was wondering who that was I think I will catch up to Anti-Trend by the end of the year, maybe quicker.
It doesn't use much bandwidth at all. Whenever it needs a new WU, it'll download it and get started on working with it. 5 minutes is all it'll take.
Don't worry. I've been working on a major bit of data, so if that keeps up, I'll claw my way to the top, and have AT eat my dust. Of course, if he ends up in the right admin position, he could slaughter everyone.
well, my third CPU just came online and it is dedicated. It is a 3.2 GHz P4 with 512 MB of RAM running absolutely nothing but F@H. Doesn't even have sound drivers on it, just video, LAN, chipset, F@H, and, of course, IE. Anybody have any ideas on how to get more performance out of it? I have Big WUs and Advanced Methods enabled but I want more. maybe since there is nothign mission critical on it I will OC it. Too bad it only has stock cooling. Maybe I can get a 100-200 MHz out of it. Oh how I wish it was AMD.
I don't think I'll be folding for a while, left my PC on last night to work on a WU and it turns out it froze (not F@H, the actual PC locked up) after working on it for 10 minutes (I didnt discover this until the morning, by which time it had sat there in it's frozen state for like 8 hours), did the same thing this afternoon. I'll try and figure out what's wrong and if I can get it working I'll start folding again, if not then I'm out for now.
http://www.hardwareforums.com/welcome-f-h-faq-2047/ That should explain better (there's links in that thread explaining it), I know pelvis_3 posted a link earlier in the thread about explaining it, I didn't actually check the link out so it may be the same one.
