Hi I am researching on Possible ways to stop Piracy. Particularly Music. Would be kind if you guys leave comments.
Fighting Online Music Piracy To combat online music piracy, the AFM, the Recording Industry Association of America ("RIAA") and other concerned groups have begun a comprehensive campaign. One aspect of this campaign against online music piracy is to raise awareness and educate the public about the consequences that online music piracy has on the people who work in the music industry. To this end, we are part of a coalition that has launched a public awareness campaign to educate the public on online music piracy. Online music piracy issues have been brought to Congress's attention by the AFM, the RIAA and other groups in the coalition. Online music piracy bills are now coming out of both chambers of Congress. Since online music piracy touches on such issues as privacy, copyright infringement, property rights and the evolution of digital media, many different Congressional committees are now addressing online music piracy. To further counter online music piracy, the RIAA has started to issue subpoenas to the most egregious online copyright infringers. The AFM supports the RIAA's decision to pursue legal action against those who contribute to online music piracy, and we encourage Congress to enact legislation that will protect musicians' hard work against online music piracy. We know that the decision to sue music fans and consumers was a difficult one, but it was the last option available to combat online music piracy. Online music piracy deterrence is an issue that has strong bipartisan support in Congress. Many members of Congress agree with the AFM that online music piracy is no different than stealing a CD from a record store. Congress has been holding many hearings on online music piracy and there has been a flurry of activity on some of the bills before both chambers in recent weeks. Haha, that has already been done actually. I think. CD's became significantly lower-priced in stores, as far as I'm aware. I think i've actually heard that said on radio or something too, so it's not just my personal experience. The other thing that makes people want to pirate music is the fact that often a particular song is desired but not the entire CD. There are plenty of "one-hit wonders" out there. So the other thing is to make music selling much more flexible by offering individual songs for sale rather than just whole CD's. That, too, is already being done with stuff like iTunes, etc. From here I guess the individual songs-selling just has to become more widespread and maybe CD's should be lowered even more, and the rest is up to cracking down on p2p I suppose *shrug. Don't have any ideas on how to accomplish that last parth tho.
Stop assuming the consumer base is a collection of music pirates. I have 7.6GB of music on my main rig. Know what? I own the CD's too. Crap like Sony's rootkit debacle is not a way to improve customer relations. I'm more than happy to pay for good music, however, I try not to buy CD's that I don't enjoy. I do see more options opening up with some retailers to allow you to listen to snippets of songs on CD's, not just one or two tracks or parts of a few tracks. I don't think I'd have purchased Ill Nino's One Nation Underground without having listened to it first.
