Any reason why it feels like my computer is running slower after upgrading to a dual core Intel 820 D? I upgraded from a Pentium 4 2.66 GHz. My computer overall seems slower (e.g. opening Outlook, loading webpages, etc.) I can't figure out what is going on. I understand that I may not see a big jump in speed with this upgrade, but it shouldn't be slower right? What should I look at to determine why this is happening... my performance monitor says my CPUs are not really be utized to capacity. Could it be that I have PC3200 Ram (sam as before) and it does not work as well with a CPU that has a bus speed of 800MHz? Thanks!
Welcome to hardwareforums alawisious  The Pentium D 820 is 2 processors (cores) running at 2.8GHz, programs like Outlook express etc can only run on one core so i doubt you will notice any significant increases on speed. the benifits of dual core CPU's are that you can run multiple web programs at the same time without the same slowdown you would have had before! for example, windows needs processor time just as your programs do... before when windows needed processor time it would interrupt any programs running, do what it needs to do and then go back to running the program (this is called multi tasking). With a dual core CPU, you can multi task but the big difference is you can multi task with 2 cores so your computer can do alot more in the same amount of time! I would recommend switching from Outlook express to Mozilla Thunderbird as generally its faster and more secure!, i would also give Firefox a try if your still using Internet Explorer for the same reasons (also, try some of the tweaks / extensions for firefox in this thread)
