I built my computer over a year ago with no issues whatsoever... until this morning. When I woke up I found my computer appeared to be off. The monitor was black and showed a little icon indicating no signal. I thought my computer was off, but the power light was on and I could hear fans running. The power button did not shut it down, but the switch on the back of the power supply did. I left it sitting for fifteen minutes or so and tried to turn it on. It sounds normal at first, that is you can hear a fan running and the power light comes on. But, literally no more than two seconds after I push the power button the computer shuts off. I tried again, several times. But, it does the same thing and sometimes it doesn't attempt to come on at all, or the light only comes on for a fraction of a second. I tried plugging the computer in straight to the wall, bypassing the surge protector, but I get the same result. Any idea what the problem might be? Has this happened to anyone here and what did you end up having to do to fix it? I would appreciate any help you can give me. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but here's the specs of my computer: BIOSTAR N4SLI-A9 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L300R0 300GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1.8GHz Socket 939 Processor Two EVGA 256-P2-N363-TX GeForce 6600LE 256MB DDR PCI Express x16 Video Cards Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply AuzenTech XMYSTIQUE7.1 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
not a good idea, unless your testing the surge protector, the protector will have an indicator on it telling you if it's working or not, if the indicator is on it is working[/ot] try an atx reset, remove all leads from back of pc then hold power button for 10-20 seconds, look at the power led when you loose button you should see the led light for 1/2 second when you restore the power, then put all plugs back in it may work. did you overclock this system ? is the CPU fan clean & working ? try disabling the onboard grfx, and plugging in a grfx card, and connect your monitor to the grfx card you inserted, does it work ?
First do what Dave(Donkey) has specified in his post...then try Check ur power supply with a tester or some other machine.
