My best friend just got himself a brand new computer, and of course there were a few bugs to work out. It was direct from cyberpower pc and was your basic 500 dollar comp. Unfortunately, the computer recognized the cd drive but not the cds in it. We disconnected the drive, rebooted, and were shocked to discover boot times dropped from a frustrating three minutes to a lowly thirty seconds. After uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, we got the cd drive to be recognized again. However, lo and behold, everything was going slower. Any suggestions besides the obvious bad part?

    Welcome to HWF :)

Have you tried using a different data cable for the CD Drive? If there's a problem with the cable, then the system will keep trying to connect to the drive everytime when it senses the drive. And that causes bad performance.
