    Hi all - Quick question

I am rebuilding my PC (with a new mobo) and I am in the process of reconnecting all the various cables. Everything seems OK but I have some discrepancies with the cable for the front panel's firewire socket. In short I have two wires which do not correspond to the labels of the motherboard pins. My question is, lets say that I connect everything to the motherboard as best as I see fit and then I connect a firewire device to the front panel, can I damage the motherboard if the connections were wrong? Or will the device simply not communicate with the PC? If in doubt, I do not have to use the firewire header as I have a socket at the back as well.... but thought I would check.

    Thanks all for looking.

Yes, if the connections are wrong, you can damage the header. You don't want your voltage line running into the data pin.
