Hello All, I have a Maxtor SATA HD (DiamondMax Plus 9) that has crashed and I'm trying to hook it up to a PC (running XP Home) to try some recovery programs on it, and I'm running into a problem. When I hook it up to my PC before booting, the BIOS recognizes the drive, but XP crashes before it can boot up. So I've tried Hot Swapping it after booting up, and XP recognizes it, and the HD appears under my Hardware listing (under system) but after about 30 seconds XP freezes up completely. I've tried the HD on a friends PC and had the exact same trouble. Does anyone know what XP does right after it recognizes the HD? What would cause XP to freeze up after recognizing the HD? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!
It might possibly be corrupted from the crash What recovery programs are you trying to run? Does the other PC that you hooked it up to have the drivers downloaded for the HD? (some do require)
EasyRecovery DataRecovery and Restorer2000 are the programs I'm trying to run, but I'm not even getting that far. I do believe the HD to be corrupted, but I'm confused as to why XP would recognize the drive under hardware manager, then freeze up. I think my only recourse will be to take the drive somewhere and see if they can physically look at the drive to determine if it can be recovered. Oh well, thanks for the reply!
