    hey folks,
recently I brought a headphone with microphone... seems like its working properly, coz i can hear my voice through the speakers... so when i brought that, i thought its working properly...but later, all ma friends told me that they could not hear ma voice in voice chats.. so i just tried to record ma voice... then only i found that ma microphone is not working in any applications.. even in windows sound record.. but i can hear the voice in speaker.. earlier two months before i had another mic it was working properly... now i dunno which one has the problem.... sound card or mic or system...
ma sound card is onboard on gigabyte.
    OS is windows SP2
    please any one help me....

Make sure that you have connected your mic in the mic port, not in the Line in. I know it sounds stupid but sometimes it does happens..

Do this, If your speakers are working properly then to check the Mic....
Plug in your speakers wires inside the Mic port and then Record your voice in your computer. Put back your speakers on the speakers port and listen if your voice is recorded or not.

ok, i checked in that way.. i connected heaphone(speakerside) in Mic port and tried to record.. even though, same problem im able to listen ma voice in other normal speaker, but coudnt record the voice.. so as you said, it seems Mic doesnt hav any problem.. it shoud be OS or sound card... i hope most probebly system, coz jus one month before only i reinstalled WinXP sp2.. befor that i used another headphone.. but that one worked properly in this same sound card...
    oh... plz

There is one more thing that you can check.....
Double click on the sound icon on the right hand side bottom of your desktop.. See if your Microphone bar is not muted.
If Microphone Bar is not there then just go to Options > properties and select it from there....
Other than that, the only thing I can think of is a software problem...

yeah i already checked those.. its not muted.. and i think it should be OS or driver problem.. coz itz not working in any thing.. such as, chat rooms, MS sound recorder, soundforge, MS speech recognization or any other.. and one more thing that i noticed yesterday, not only Microphone even i coudnt record stereo inputs(stereo recording type) also...

Are you using on-board sound or a separate soundcard, I know with my soundcard I can't record / hear audio from an external source unless I set the soundcard software to use that source for recording or whatever.

its an on board sound card.. the problem is, even i couldnt record any thing through stereo input recording type... so it should be a windows error.. related sound card software.. but i tried both new and old version of ma sound card driver...

Click Start > Help & Support > Hardware > Fixing A Hardware Problem > Sound Troubleshooter.............

Go step by step and see if you find out your solution from this.
