Hi chaps, Question? I have a laptop with an Intel 845 GV mother board, socket lga 775, running a celeron 2ghz processor, if I wish to upgrade is it a simple process of choosing any processor with a socket lga775 inteface ie; celeron or p4 or am i restricted to just celeron processors. Would like to up to p4 if possible for the improved processor. any one know please help! regards David
You can upgrade to any LGA775 CPU and you should be fine. You're not just restricted to Celerons, however the very newest chips may not be supported unless you have a BIOS upgrade with some older motherboards.
I'm not entirely sure there's an 845GV laptop that uses the LGA775 socket. From what I understand, the most recent list of mobile Intel chips all use the mPGA Socket 479. I'm not entirely sure any LGA socket has been implemented in a laptop as of yet. My guess is you're going to be limited to a mobile CPU with a Northwood derivative (I'm not sure what codename the mobile version of the Northwood Pentium4/Celeron's used). That'd be one thing you'd need to find out from your laptop manufacturer.
