Hi I changed the MB in my Dell E510 and had problems with it. One of the problems was the CPU fan would run at very high speed when running under pressure. If i ran a AV scan or a HD Diag. scan the fan would scream. I put the original MB back in and still have the Fan problem. Now even at idle the fan will run high. Any ideas. Thanks
Depending on the motherboard, you may have the ability to control the fan speed based on temperature. You'll need to get into BIOS (Hit Delete, F1, F2, or whatever key the motherboard has) and check under the PC Health section to see if there's an option for the motherboard to kick the fan on at a particular temperature. When you installed the new motherboard, did you clean off the thermal paste/pad, clean it off with isopropyl alcohol, and apply a new pad or paper-thin layer of thermal paste? If not, that's another thing to check on.
I just finished working on a Dell with a fan problem, Dell has a big problem with the fans with cooling and Noise ... This one was Noise, way too loud. I found this fan ( Star 1800 Ultra Quiet case fan) at computergeeks.com and it really made a difference. Runs real good now without all the Noise. the fan cost about $7.99 ..
Thanks guys I took out the heatsink and cpu and cleaned and replaced the thermal paste. It's running much better now.
Good to hear. Anytime you remove the cooler, it's best to clean off the old and apply some new thermal material.
