I am getting an alert audible from my msi dual core center off and on showing mu cpu fan speed dropping to zero ( 0 ) and then returning to ~1950rpm. My CPU temp is 37-41. I am running an intel core 2 duo 2.66 with the retail intel cpu fan plugged into the MB.

Is it normal for a cpu fan to stop and restart?

I have not verified if the fan is actually stopping.

    Hi,

Please check the fan speed settings in your BIOS...

no, fans do speed up and slow down, if, they monitor the speed (3 wires instead of 2 coming from the CPU fan) i would have thought the fan is knacked (not working as it should) personally i'd buy a new heatsink & fan & obviously some thermal compound & some cotton buds to clean it away, although, i think most new HS/fan combo usually come with thermal compound on them (thermal compound is a small white square on the bottom of the HS) if you get one without thermal compound then only apply a paper thin layer to the HS, if you make a mess with it you can buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol from your local pharmacy, and also use it to remove the old HS from your CPU, they may ask you to sign their poisons book, just say your cleaning old thermal compound from your CPU
