I posted it here because it involves a CPU...(and there isn't a CPU moding section ) It's been done before but I wanted one so I did it as well Used an Athlon 1700+ for this, got it on ebay for £2 (it's faulty) I cleared all the pins off with a stanley blade (scraped under them to get them off) then made sure it was all smooth (gently scraped and then sanded to get rough bits off) then took off the foam pad off of one of the corners and drilled through. Attached a ring and then atached it to my keys!
Cool mod Matt, I've wanted one for a while but I don't have a diamond drill bit for those ceramic based older Athlons.
Yea, those newer Athlons used some sort of synthetic plasticy substance, easy to drill through. Back in the day, you could tap an athlon on a table and hear the clear sound of ceramic....
Yeah these new ones seem to be made out of the same PCB material as the electronics I've made in the past...was very easy to drill through, just used a normal drill bit and started off slow(ish) to get things going and make sure the thing didn't slip, then when a divot was made just sped the drill bit up a bit and went through (into a piece of wood to avoid too much splintering). Just lightly sanded the edges of the hole to make sure there were no sharp bits and then attached the ring
