i have a old old laptop (HP omnibook 4150) that uses a GenuineIntel x86 Family 6 model 8 Stepping CPU, which i believe is suppose to yield 600Mhz, however i noticed my computer was running kinda slow so i ran program that detects my CPU speed, and it report my CPU speed to be '26', which i can only assume means 26MHZ... needless to say, i am in a fair bit of distress. Any hhelp on this matter would be appreciated, and i give you my thanks in advance

i believe that is only your multiplier setting if yoou take that and your clock setting, it should equal out to 600mhz

im guessing your clock is around 25 or 26 too, if it was running at 26 mhz you wouldn't be able to run most of today's programs on it

It possible you're seeing a strange multiplyer frequency but I would highly doubt Intel set the chips multiplyer to over 23! (23x26=598). Try that program again and see what it yeilds as it could have been a momentary glitch.

yeah because the number is mostly set around 10-18 i guess, pretty odd for 26, unless your multiplier would be 23 and clock 26

    yeah check again

also a good program that can give you info about almost every aspect of your system is sisoftware sandra

you can get a free limited version at

    sisoftware.com

    :good:

thx guyz... i went back and rechecked the CPU speed and it turned out a 29 :x:

btw, the 'utility' i am using is not really a performance or tweak utility, its really just the system checker for a game i installed on my comp :O

the checker claims my CPU speed is 29 (the required is listed as 350), i was wondering if there is any possible occurence that could cause my CPU speed to go down? if so is there any way to fix it? once again, thx in advance for any help (in case i forget later)

Yea Windows won't boot on a 29 MHz system. Palm OS won't even boot on that. Unless you're running DOS :)x:) then you're getting an improper reading. Try a different util, the one you're using is probably screwed up.

alright i downloaded the sis sandra and it reports my CPU speed to be 498mhz (phew) but i was wondering, my performance is still pretty bad (i have trouble running counter strike even) and i believe my chip is suppose to be running at 600 mhz... is there anything that could be making my computer slow? once again thanks in advance

alot of registry errors or spyware or viruses can put some load on the speed

    registry mechanic
    adaware SE personal
    microsoft antispyware beta
    AVG free edition

those are really good programs for free that can fix alot of errors, also i'd recommend to defrag once in a while via right click my computer, manage, defragment
