Hello, Noobie here. I have a ECS P4S5A/DX+ motherboard with a P4 2.4 GHz CPU. My mother board's CPU Fan holder (the clip) broke, so they sent me a new motherboard, exactly same. But now the BIOS sees the CPU as 1.8 GHz. I ran 'Everest Ultimate' hardware scanner and it gave these results: CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 1800 MHz (18 x 100) Package Type: 478 Pin uPGA CPU Alias: Northwood, A80532 Original Clock: 2400 MHz Min / Max CPU Multiplier: 18x / 18 x What does this mean? The other motherboard saw it as 2.4 Gigs. On windows System properies also it says 2.4 GHz. (as part of the CPU brand name.) How can I fix this? I tried changing it on BIOS, but it wouldn't let me... hah:
You'll have to change the FSB (Front Side Bus) to 133 instead of 100. It's probably under Frequency and Voltage Controls in your BIOS, but Epox may have a special section for this stuff too, so check where the manual has it. This setting may be referred to as External Clock Control. That's what you'll have to adjust. The multiplier, which it sounds like you were trying to adjust, cannot be changed on the Pentium 4.
Assuming the ECS board is using the AwardBIOS then you need to look under 'advanced chipset settings' to change the front side bus
Thanks, Big B and megamaced. That did IT!!! (Yesh, I was trying to change the multiplier ) It's so nice to have my machine back to his old self. Thaks again.
