    Hi all,

Basically I am going to be buying, or building a new rig ready and waiting for my birthday in Jan of 2008. However, new components and other sorts have come to my attention and I just need a little help with finding the right specs.

    1) RAM: Is it better to stick with DDR2 or just up it to DDR3? and if DDR3, which speed; 1066, 1333 or higher?

    2) Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.0Ghz or the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz... or ultimately, go for the new AMD Phenom?

    3) Motherboards: I know if I go for Intel I will need a socket 775 mobo, with P35? I am not sure what this Intel P35 is? also, what form factor will the mobo need to be, or is best to be; ATX, MTX or anything else? I thought about getting an EVGA, or Asus 680i mobo (is this any good)?

In addition to mobos, do i need to look for anything in particular to let me know if DDR3 is supported? or will any mobo take it?

again, this is the same for the new 9 series nvidia cards, although my current plans are to get an 8800GT @ 512MB SSC from EVGA?

Thanks for any and all help - it is much appreciated.

i'm using q6600 now with a 768mb gf8 8800gtx and i can say quad core not worth for money too much if you are not a designer using 3dmax, photoshop etc. professionaly

e6850 is way better in gaming and multimedia considered to q6600 if you're not gonna work with too many programmes like me (dev c, microsoft visual c, battlefield, media player, zone alarm security suite, heat controllers, multitasking controllers, system watchers etc. are running at the same time lol) there is no need for quad core

but phenom's are new in stores so trustable results will come out in a few days

if you gonna buy them immediately buy e6850 and 8800gts if you can or wait for the new geforce 9 series to come out in february 2008 the high end 9 series cards will be in stores and they will decrease the price range of ati and geforce 8 series

i understand what u mean entirely. the only issue i foresee is that more and more programs and games are or will be using multi threading technology and and taking advantage of intels quad core and amds true quad core technologies.

i don't want to buy an e6850 now, and then regret it a month or two down the line. thats why i am very unsure of weather to get a duel or quad core. for all intents and purposes, i wont need a quad core for vid edits, deving or any thing of the sorts - just major multitasking... and hard gaming :p

i have seen a couple of benchmarks on gamespot.com were they tested amd's phenom against itnels Q series and intel still came out on top with still a reasonable gap.

i am just so unsure what to get lol...

in regards to what i have said, do u still believe it to be better to get a duel core like the E6850 over the quad cores such as the Q6600, or Q6700??

well i still believe that e6850 is way better because you mean gaming, single task right? and q6600 is the cpu i'm using if you look at my specs

what i mean is e6850 is performing way better in games yeah i know intel is better then the phenom cpus but phenom's price range will change the store lists exactly because they are better than most of today's cpus at good prices

multitasking is future's technology but remember years ago when amd launched the 64 bit technology on desktop solutions intel had made the reasonable move by building this technology only to server systems just i wanna ask when did amd launched 64 bit and when was it started using on pcs

quad core case is gonna be just like that

that years amd won the battle with less heat generation and high perfomance integrated ram controller today intel wins with the core2 technology

phenom is the first naturally built 4 cored cpu but intels q series are 2 cored cpus they are built of two dual core chipsets so if you want technology buy amd dude but if the case is better gaming performance e6850 is way better again ;)
