I'm confused with the results from a cpuz SPD scan. It says my memory module is a Samsung and gives all the CAS times and manufactures codes but when you look at the module it self the modules are stamped as SMART. Now I'm no genius but are these modules manufactured by Samsung and branded under the name of SMART, like OEM? Thanks, Anthony
It's not uncommon for companies to rebadge the same product under a different name. The memory modules PCB may have been made by Samsung and the chips elsewhere. I admit: it is quite interesting to see what comes up for the RAM maker on that program.
Yea firms like Micron actually produce the memory chips while other companies use them to make the modules.
It’s confusing as heck though when you’re trying to peace what peace is what though. How does CPUZ distinguish each memory module from which? Is it the controllers on the PCB or the DIMS? Like you both said manufactures use bits and peaces so if you know how CPUZ works its possible to work out which part is what manufacture?
The RAM chips may be Samsung or whatever, but the RAM PCB is where the information is read from. There's a little chip on it that controls the timings and includes information about the stick. Part of this information is who assembled the stick.
Ah hah: I see, thanks for that! Wasn't too sure about that so wanted to see the full story on it. It's only just after finding out the reason why my system was always dieing was because of the SATA cables were faulty in my raid system. 4 WEEKS
BTW big D, whats your avatar from? I've just finshed watching G.T.O so looking to watch new anime series to watch, was considering full metal panic!
