For some reason when I install anything I get crc errors. I just replaced the motherboard, cpu, hard drive and graphics card. Only things not new are the sound card, LAN card and dvd drive. Is it the dvd drive causing the issues? I even replaced the IDE cables, and my brand new hdd (as of yesterday) is a SATA drive.
CRC is a method of error checking. Most commonly its do with an optical drive if you get errors like that. Try using a different DVD drive, if that doesn't work try a new IDE cable. i'm guessing that its not the media since you're getting this error with a lot of things. Can you be more specific in the errors please. Does this error happen when trying to install software via DVD drive?
i thought CRC errors were related to downloaded software, & if you receive a CRC error you need to redownload it & use the new download, the only time i received a CRC error is when installing from a CD that i burnt with software i've downloaded
CRC can be used in a variety of situations. It can be used to check that a file hasn't been damaged, e.g. from downloaded files or that there were no reading errors when copying files from a CD.
You said that, But then you said So I said that you must required an optical drive to download that software and you got that error, like addis said
A CRC error message could be generated by any of the below reasons. 1. During the transmission of the file it became corrupt or bad 2. The file was sent inappropriately 3. The device being opened from is bad or contains errors 4. The file itself is bad or the program attempting to open the file is bad. If the file is attempting to be opened from a removable media such as a Zip disk / Floppy diskette it is possible data corruption is being encountered on the diskette itself or when coming from the removable media. Try an alternate diskette or media. If the file is being opened from a CD-ROM it is possible the CD is dirty or scratched causing read errors. If the CD was burned it is possible that it was burned improperly. Clean the CD-ROM or Re-burn the software. If the file is being opened from the hard disk drive or other media, it is likely that the file is corrupted or the program opening the file is corrupted. Download the file again. Reinstall the program being used to open the file Attempt to open with a different program If the file is on the hard disk drive, run scandisk / defrag Assume the file is bad and cannot be recovered
