thanx for the help on the last issue.. i am now up and running smooth and stable, after RMAing the whining cpu(yes it was the cpu-not the fan-strange). only small issue which i saw the one closely related to but somewhat different-

i have a custom cpu fan that doesn't like to be detected by the mainboard(K7VTA3v2.0), or at least is too slow (it's 80mm) so the only way to boot is to temporarily plug in a noisy small fan, or touch the thermal sensor and speed the fan up. i would be happy not to have to do this every time. is there a way to turn off the function where the system wont start without the cpu fan directly plugged in? i looked at manual, plus flashed latest BIOS. great thanx

I really don't have any knowledge of the motherboard myself, but I belive the option you want is under "Health Monitoring" or "Power Management" or something like that (can't remember which). Just going off the top of my head, here.
