Hi everyone! I have a dell 640m, the sound stopped working randomly! Tried all sorts of drivers and eventually returning system to factory image. Still no sound so hardware problem! Dell tell me new mobo to be fitted £207. Buying them online to fit myself isnt a lot less. COULD buy PCMCIA sound card for less, just the laptop speakers wont work anymore. Just wondering if anyone has ANY other suggestions?
i had a lightning strike hit my house a few years ago that traveled through my Gb ethernet equipment and into every motherboard in the house. random on-board components (ethernet, sound, video) on random mobos ended up fried. my suggestion...disable the non-working component in the bios settings, uninstall the drivers for the disabled hardware, then use PCI/PCMCIA cards to replace the components.
