Determining which type of RAM i have

    I know that there are many different types of ram but i need to know which type i gave. How do i do this?

    another question: does it matter what type of RAM i put in my system?

    ps My system is about 5 years old and when i bought it it was top of the line

    Yes it would matter a lot, at five years old it could very well use PC100 which has 168pins while standard DDR, like PC3200 has 184pins so you can't pop in any of that if your motherboard doesn't support it. And you also can't use DDR2 which has 240pins so that really wouldn't work.
