During the last weekend, bunches of tech sites, including this one, published news about a certain X1800 AGP product.

However, we've been hagged. Judging by Diamond MultiMedia's annoucement, its X1800 model was supposed to be distributed in November of 2005, existing in both AGP 8X and PCI Express versions. The AGP version was even supposed to include ViVo.

Diamond updated the site with a new availability date of December, and killed off the part mentioning AGP. But, even though the statement "Slot: PCIE or AGP" has been changed to "Slot: PCIE", the statement "AGP Version includes VIVO" still remained on the site. After our second e-mail, Diamond rushed to kill that information as well.

BTW, the title of the page is still "X800XL", but we won't explain how complicated it is to change the window name.

So we apologise to all readers of The INQ who feel cheated over the situation. Things took a turn for the worse when Linda, a Diamond MM rep, copy and pasted the same answer to all those people who bombarded the site with X1800 AGP questions. You can even find the phone details in user forums, but we won't do the same and copy and paste her answer here.

Thing is, AGP currently holds 74% of the market, PCI Express holds 26%. And besides Nvidia's last-minute decision to make 6800GS AGP, there will be no new AGP products for Yule sales. Sad. I still remember that 3dfx boards stood at #1, #3, #4, #5, #7, and #9 and #10 on the UK Top 10 retail graphic card, nine months after the company got sold to Nvidia. Most of those used the PCI slot, though.

Next time you read Diamond's site, if it states "good day", be sure to check the window first.
