We decided to disable the reputation system and try out a much more simple system.

Each user now has a "Helpful Posts" count under there normal post count, this number refers to how many helpful posts a user has posted.

This only applies to selected forums, so for example you can't find a post in the "Test Forums" so its disabled there.

What to do if you find a helpful post? Well next to the edit button theres a helpful button.

For the Dark Blue theme you can use this button
    [IMG]

For the Light Blue theme you can use this button
    [IMG]

(the above button will be renamed "Helpful")

Remember only click on the "Helpful" button if you find the thread helpful/informative.

e.g. In the bargain zone, you can say you found the post helpful, as it saved you money.

    Please post comments/ideas here.

This is a trial, we will have a vote in a weeks time.

Feel free to click the helpful button on older posts that you found useful.

    oh right then.

hehe still got the most helpful posts, why, I can't imagine :p

I think this system will work in terms of getting people to recognise who are the really useful members on this site!

I think its working quite well.

Though I am thinking about changing it from Times Helpful to Complements so if a user thinks the post was good/helpful etc he/she could complement the user?

    How bout: Useful Posts?

cos a compliment doesn't really relate to the site - "wow your so smart, i love you for fixing my problems?!"?

[Ot]also what was all that testing about earlier? It was intriguing but I didn't post a reply as specified not too.[/ot]

yeh thats what I had at first but it would not make sense, as a number of users can find "one" post helpful.

e.g. Addis made a post and 4 people found it useful, so he helped 5 times, rather than 5 helpful posts. if you get what I mean.

[ot]I was testing a message which would appear in quick reply and newthread telling the users to "Please user standard English or the post will be DELETED"

I just need to sort out a few things before making it live[/ot]

Yeah I see what you mean, being helpful 4 times, or having 4 people find your post helpful....

What about.... Total Helpful Posts as one "count", and a "Total Times Helpful", if that was possible. So like for every NEW post that is deemed helpful, you get 1 for "Total Helpful posts", and every additional person to say it was helpful, and the "Total Times Helpful" goes up?

Well it's really catching on I guess, quite the idea then. Maybe a ranking board of the most helpful people, it would just be fun to see and encourage some healthy, and constructive competition I guess. I've got far more than I deserve really, must be the smilies at the bottom:)
