When upgrading to a new directx, is it best to uninstall the previous one? Is that even possible? I know that when updating video card drivers, u're supposed to fully uninstall the current video card drivers b4 installing the new ones. Is that method supposed to be done with directx also? In the add/remove programs list, I have an item called DirectX 9 Hotfix - KB839643 (I'm on WinXP pro). That's it, isn't it? If I wanted to uninstall directx, I'd just remove that, wouldn't I? I have no idea what that KB83... junk means, though. I've had directx 9.0b for a long time, but now I just installed Battlefield 2, and it's prompting me to install directx 9.0c. So that's why I'm asking. Thanks.
doesnt directx 9.0c come with the game? you only need to say yes, when it asks you to install it, theres no need to remove any fix or older versions.
Yeah it does come with the game. I just thought that maybe it's better for the system to remove the previous directx and install 9.0c onto a clean slate, rather than installing it over the older version? probly doesn't matter then huh?
Most of the times or may be every time, if I install an update of a software then I never required to uninstall the older one. Update thing does everything automatically. Not even for the video card~!
Technically, you can't un-install DirectX anyway. It's an integral part of the Windows OS. You could safely wipe the Hotfix off the computer, but don't. Often the DirectX hotfixes are installed with games to update the DX version.
