Sorry if i put this in wrong place, its software, couldent decided between, vid cards forum, windows forum, pc gaming forum or this one.

Anyway, i have been reading on a site, and it says, your going to have to have Windows VISTA to have direct x 10 installed, and to experience direct x 10 games, you going to have to have a direct x 10 video card, so if i bought an x1900xt, then 4 months later, direxct x 10 got released along with direct x 10 games, i wouldent be able to play those game at all would i?

If that's true, would any game developers make dx10 games? (In the near future, that is.) I of course have absolutely no clue in regards to a real answer to your question (actually I don't have a clue about much in general), but it seems logical to me that likely there won't be very many hot products available really soon if it's that much backwards-UNcompatible. What do u guys think? I mean game developers don't make a lot of money as it is! I don't think they'd be too excited about limiting their markets to only the richest people out there with all the latest video cards and the latest Windows ... ugh, isn't a brand new Windows typically like $200? What did XP cost when it first hit the shelves?

Dont know, possibly, coz they got the console market thats making them lots of money, so there not wasting time and money making DirectX10 games, and they know loads of propor gamers proberbly will pay out like £800 or whatever stupid amount the Directx 10 graphics cards will be to play all the latest games.

Infact, apparently the full Potential of DirectX9 hasent been unleashed, personly, i think its pathetic there releasing DirectX10 possibly this year!, especialy when people are paying £500-£600 for 7900GTX's and X1900XT's and XTX's, directX10 seems to just fix a couple of problems, going to make graphics cards change alot, and fix some of the limitations with DirectX9, but still, They should of waited another 7 months or so.

Apparently, Vista will ship with DirectX 9.0L, and DirectX10.0.
but apparently its like this :'(
To playrectX 10 games, you going to need a DirectX 10 graphics card, and DirectX 10 cards wont play directX 9.0 games very well :s

But the thing is, it seems Microsoft is going to MAKE you buy VISTA to play Directx10 games, coz Apparently, DirectX10 is not coming out for Windows xp, oh, and if it did, it seems like DirectX10 games, with a directX10 graphics card in windows xp, would run DirectX10 games slow, wtf!?!?!

It, seems Game Developers might be making fallback versions of DirectX10 games that are DirectX9.0.

i was reading about the above on the forum, but it seems very wierd, and it seems like DirectX10 is NOT backwards compatible like the other versions of DirectX :\

I dont know if its true, maybe someone else haves some info about it, but it seems like buying a DirectX9 card is just a plain waste of money if your a gamer, it also seems like DirectX10 graphics cards are going to be different, somthing about Common shaders, Geometry Shader :s

and on a hardware website, its also seems that we need to shell out on more money for big upgrades.

If they do make a Verion of DirectX10 games for DirectX9, then the DirectX9 verison will look crap compared to the DirectX10 version rite? and run slow as hell on DirectX9 cards rite?

It's just like Playstation 1 and 2, Playstation 2 Games Came out on the Playstation 1 at first, i dont know if they still do, proberbly not, but of course the Playstation 1 version looked crap compared to the Playstation 2 version.

I can see DirectX10 Killing PC gaming, and increasing the Console market, as everyone will want to move to consoles as there cheaper, and with consoles like the playstation 3 will proberbly get graphics as good as the DirectX10 games.

As i said in another thread recently Willz, if you aren't using a DX10 card,
DX10 will be emulated through Windows. Games won't look any worse simply because your running a DX9 card. It just means, if you want the full potential DX10 has to offer, you'll need a DX10 card and Vista.

i remember you saying that, its just from what i have seen, to play DirectX10 games, you need a DirectX10 card and windows vista :\
and i seen a video on gamespot saying that DirectX10 is not Backwards compatible like the other versions of DirectX

or was all this thought of when direct x 9 was just coming out and everyone had direct x 8 cards?

I do hope what you say is deffenitly true, coz then i can go ahead and buy x1900xtx, but waiting for the R600 is tempting, but i am impatient.

Well at the moment, i haven't seen any evidence about non-backwards compatibility. Of course, this is all speculation and rumours at the moment,
so without seeing any verifiable fatcs from Microsoft themselves, take all this with a grain of salt.

I don't doubt that DX10 will bring improvements, however, where MS needs to focus, they aren't. I'm not sure of the future of DX10, as something like what's being said would probably be something of a hot news item. I'm not saying Microsoft wouldn't do that, but that seems to be really rushing it, even for Microsoft.

hmm, do you think anyone could be happy with a card like the x1900GT, or x1800xt, or 7900GTX, GT etc.. for another 1 or 2 years, playing direct x 10 games aswell?

It's really not a big deal. Games will work and look great using DX 9 cards. Crysis for instance will work great with a DX 9 card. Granted it will obviously look better with DX 10 but what I'm saying is you don't need vista and a DX 10 card to play DX 10 games. Nobody would make a game that only worked with the very best and latest hardware. So few people will have DX 10 cards compared to those with DX 9 cards when UT2k7 ships it would be a huge blunder to require DX 10.
If I were you I'd still wait as I know it's going to be difficult to stomach the pain of knowing you have a beefy card yet you can't even enable all the settings you like. As for Vista we'll I guess you can't really avoid it as XP doesn't support anything after DX 9.0L
Here's some good info for you:

what do you mean, so for directx10 games YOU NEED vista? but can use a Directx 9 card?

also, will direct x 10 cards be PCI-Express or some other interface?

If you want to play games with the DX 10 options enabled and everything at it's greatest potential you'll need vista and a DX 10 card. They'll most certainly be PCIe, at least for a while.
What I'm saying is DX 10 games will work with a DX 9 card and XP, just not to the same extend as they would with Vista and a DX 10 card.

Would be easier if it were OpenGL, UT2k4 looks better with OpenGL than DX.

I'm not really up with OpenGL, but I do know that's what the PS3 will use primarilly so there's something to be said for that.
