Hey All I currently have three sata hard drives in my computer(no RAID). A new 1TB where the OS (Windows 7) was installed about a month ago. The second drive is a 750GB where Windows Vista (32bit) was, but is now reformatted and has nothing on it, and the last is a 250 gb drive used for storage. Up until today everything is working fine. I recently bought a external e-sata docking station that has an e-sata port as well as a usb 2.0 port. The plan was to take the 250 gb hardrive and place it in the docking station and connect it to my main system using the e-sata connection and use the usb port to connect my laptop. I connected the docking station to my system(no laptop connected yet) and when I booted up the system, I get the "Disk boot failure, insert system disk....." message. I can see both hard drives( 1TB and the 750GB) in the bios but it kept trying to boot to the e-sata drive in the docking station. I removed the docking station's e-sata cable from my system, removed the 750GB hard drive from the system and rebooted. Still no joy. I can still see the 1TB hard drive in the bios but it will not boot. I reinstalled the 750GB hard drive and reinstalled Windows Vista. While I was waiting for the install to finish, I inserted the 1 TB hard drive into the docking station and fired up my laptop. The laptop recognized the 1TB drive and I was able to copy some files from it to the laptop. My question is the 1TB drive seems to be fine but will not boot. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Finally I got the windows 7 drive to boot up. First problem was "The partition table does not have a valid system partition". To fix that I had to set the partion as active using the command prompt option. After that I was getting "Boot MGR is missing". To fix that I had to copy the bootmgr file off the os cd/dvd to the harddrive. Then finally on restart the MBR kicked in and told me I had a boot problem(no shit!!) and to use the system(os) disk to repair it. Rebooted and let the system do its thing and rebooted again to let the changes take effect. :chk:
