I have a 40Gig drive and using Fdisk it reports 2 gig in the primary & 36 gig in the extended. If I try to create a logical drive in the extended partition the screen shows "No logical drives defined" but, at the bottom of the screen it says that "all available space is used by the logical drive" I am using this drive as a slave, when I am in Win98, the only part of the disk I can see is the 2 gig partition. Where is the remaining 38 gig gone, and can I get it back? TIA Keith
it sound as though your using the original (first release of 98 & fdisk) do you have any partitioning software ? update to 98 SE (at least) then fdisk will reconize full HDD what mobo & BIOS revision ?
Thanks for your response. I am using Win98 SE. I have tried this drive as a slave on 2 pc's with the same result, I have tried to delete all the partitions but fdisk tells me "can't delete extended drive with logical drive" but there are no logical drives.
The command fdisk /status reads :- Disk Drv M/bytes Free Usage 1 12624 100% C: 19540 E: 30004 F: 14002 G: 14614 2 38162 8 100% D: 2047 36107 It's disk 2 that I am having problems with.
try using some third party patitioning software e.g. partition magic is what a lot of people use, my partitioning software choice is Acronis Partition Expert 2003, which has now been superseeded by Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 but there are loads of different partitioning software available, just google it fftopic: [ot]sorry mega LOL[/ot]
Hi Guys, Thank you for all your help, I have now used this disk on my XP machine and XP found the "whole" drive. As Arnie says "I'll be back" (with something else)
surggesting someone "google" it, when you work for Yahoo[ot] it was supose to be funny, but you ruined it[/ot]
why ? did they upset you ? whose problems are you sorting now (except for annoying people like me) ? [ot]you dont have to answer the questions, just ignore me (in this post)[/ot]
[ot] Yeah, I decided to give in and admit that Google is better No, basically I needed part time work because of my course work, so I had to look elsewhere.[/ot]
