Hi' I am new here but I have a friend in the middle of a court case concerning some cd's that were burnt with some rather unsavory material which I know for a fact that it was not burned from his computer. Now I had heard from somewhere that there may be a way to find out if dvd's an cd's can be tracked to the burner they originated from I wanted to know if that is actually possible if so it would be a great help to my friend and his case. So please if anyone has any kind of further information as to whether this is true or not please reply I will be tracking this thread and thank you in advance.
Welcome to hardwareforums turles101  As far as i know a CD/DVD does not have a unique code or string burned onto it by the CD/DVD burner... but i believe that the software which burned it can/does tag the disk to say that it made it (But this is easily changeable with certain software, so not really a defense) He could offer to let them examine all the hard drives, floppy disk's and flash drives in his possession (in many situations files can be recovered after they have been deleted). I don't know how it works in Australia but surely they would have to prove that he did make them, what tricks are they trying to pull?
