hi have this problem, but it is part of a lot of really frusrtating problems, i cannot open certain links on websites eg ( bank, online betting account) and links on other sites, they just wont open. if i right click and open in new window, a ' page cannot display ' message appears on the bottom of the window i get a ' java script () noscript' message and nothing happens, also my sound has gone from my computer, i have tried all the usual, do a speaker test and a crackling sound is audible, but no other sound on my machine. i think all these problems are linked in some way, as they all happened the same time. could it be possible i have a virus which is doing nasty things to my software. im running windows xp, had service pack three installed but uninstalled it to see if that was the problem but its still the same, i have aol 9, i know they are the nanny isp, but it worked fine for a while then it just stopped so i dont think its aol, i have reinstalled it twice and had 5 different 'solutions ', which none worked, any ideas lads.
 
If its a virus then download AVG free edition and scan for any viruses. You may as well check for spyware aswell with [google]Spybot Search and Destroy[/google] while your at it.

Also try updating windows and download the latest version of IE. You can always try the very good Firefox which is a free web browser.

We are not legal or financial specialists, but unpaid volunteers. In other words, take any advice you receive on a public forum with a grain of salt. However, you should know that if your system has been infected with trojans and you have been doing online financial transactions on that system (over an encrypted connection or no), your financial/credit-card information has probably been compromised. I would contact your bank(s) and the applicable legal authorities, and make them aware that you have reason to believe your financial information has been compromised. I'd also be on the lookout for any abhorrent financial transactions on your accounts, especially any credit cards.

Finally, you should completely reformat your system, and reinstall your operating system from scratch. Another wise decision would be to change all of your local and online passwords for any accounts you've used on the trojan-infected system. My sister was recently compromised in a manner very similar to yours, despite the fact that she was hidden behind a firewall and had a working anti-virus. I've been seeing so many occurrences like yours lately that I am unhesitantly recommending that anyone who can possibly migrate from Windows to the Linux operating system should do so as soon as possible.

thanks for the bad news, i need to ask a naive question now ( sorry not much expierence on OS ), how do i reformat my drive, where would i get linux OS from , and also am i able to run all the stuff i currently have on my pc with linux.
 
Linux is a very good free operating system. It comes in various flavours, the easiest to use being Mandrake.
To format your hard drive you can boot your PC with a boot disc (ie XP install disc) and then type format c: into the command prompt.
With the XP disc you boot from it, then choose the recovery console option. then you do format c:
 
You will not be able to simply install your programs on Linux from their CD's.. you will either have to find equivelant programs for what you've been doing, or download or purchase linux supporting versions of the programs you have been using.
 
If you are going to install Linux, you do not need to manually reformat your hard drive. Linux will usually do this for you, depending on which version of Linux you decide on. Personally, I strongly recommend either Mandrake 10.1 Official, or SuSe Linux. Either way, you'll have a fast, modern, attractive and easy to use Linux operating system. If you have a broadband connection, you can download ISO images for the installation discs and burn them to CD. If not, you can purchase pre-burned copies of the CDs from an online vendor for just a few dollars.
