Hey all, I need to install a floppy drive and I want to make sure I have the right cable. I've got a gray ribbon cable but it doesn't look like it was meant to fit in the wierd floppy pin orientation? Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

All optical devices & IDE devices use "IDE Cables" - Which you described as "Ribboned", there are 2 different "sizes" of IDE Cables:

Big IDE Cable (Fit All CDROMs, DVDROMs / IDE Drives)
Small IDE Cable (A Floppy IDE Cable) - for a floppy drive

A IDE Cable is around 3 Inches in length, where as a floppy cable is around 2 Inches in length.

So you need a floppy cable, cost between: $2-$4 (£1-3)

Shoot, I was hoping I wouldn't have to order anything else. I need the floppy drive right? That is I can't install Windows XP without loading the driver/boot Floppy or whatever it's called right? Oh, and just to regain what little honor I may have had I meant to write "ribbon" cable, not "ribboned", I was typing frantically in the last minutes of study-hall. Anyway thanks ProcalX.

I tore open my old PC to use as a reference and the pin orientation doesn't look at all alike. The floppy drive in my old PC matches your description, mine seems longer and has two row of teeth like you'd expect yet there's a huge empty space with no pins sticking up, is this some modern format? Will an ordinary floppy cable work with my drive? If so I'll just yank out the cable from the old PC and plug her in. But in my opinion it doesn't look like it should fit. What do you think?
