why when i try to enable 16x aa or af whatever one it is, does the game start in 800x600 res and 16x aa or af whatever one it is turned off :s ?
Good question. I know that AA and AF are enabled automatically when you start in High or Ultra mode at varying degrees but I never tried enabling them separately. So let me get this straight, you enable AF at 16x (AA only goes to 8x) and restart the game and it starts you in 800x600? What happens if you just change the resolution to 1280x1024 again and keep the AF?
if i change the reseloution to 1280x1024, then keep AF, it asks your to restart game untill it gets enabled, but then when game restarts, res= 800x600 and AF is not on, i have settings on high, and sometimes ultra, but AF does not get enabled.
With High and Ultra it automatically enables AA and AF without your consent, you won't notice it checked or anything as that option is just if you want it on under Medium or if you want it cranked up another notch. Just keep it on High and 1280x1024.
but the reason i dont belive its checked is, that, on benchmarks, on settings i have it at, i shoud only be getting 30 or 40fps, when i am peaking at the 60fps limit all the time, is there anyway to get rid of that 60fps limit on doom 3? i also dont belive it was enabling AA becouse, when i had 256MB FX5200 i actually was able to play at 1024x768 and high settings.
http://www.tweakguides.com/Doom3_8.html has a ton of useful things to check out, including the disable fps cap command. Wow high on a 5200! Man I don't know what to think now, I guess the 256MB came in handy.
even my 9600 was able to play it on high settings, scary thing is, the FX5200 did better than the 9600 ty, i will check that website
Wow talk about nVidia optimization! The 5200 isn't a whole lot better than a GeForce 4MX and my friend could barely get it to play on low with that (looked like crap with bumpmapping off).
ok... i enabled 16X AF and 6X AA in ati control panel options, then had everyhitng on 1280x768 res, high settings, and uncapped fps, i was reading 41fps, most of the time 50-60, when in corridors, it was about 70fps, and in some places 120-130fps. and toms hardware was making out that X800XT PE should only get about 50fps, so, is fps counter faulty?
Maybe you're rig is better than you think, I wish I could say that about mine. It's believable, your resolution is pretty tame and 6x AA is within reason (only goes up to 6x right, 8 for nVidia). And since we're mostly talking about close corridors AF doesn't do much as it's mostly for enhancing distant textures so I can belive it. Must still look fantastic though.
yea , ahh why cant i have 8AA with my card ? i wonder what i would get if my cpu was running at 3.6ghz-3.8ghz i think pentium 4's are a little under rated :\
Assuming you don't see the option I think ATI just stuck with 6x tops, I could be wrong but I know that the 1000 series has improved this a lot.
Not that I know of, I would have thought newer drivers would have fixed this but right on ATI's site it noted 6x AA as max. Though in a lot of testing I see that people have 8x enabled with the X800 series. I'm confused now.
