I recently got a dell dimension 8100 from a friend of mine [ because im broke haha ]. Originally it had windows ME on it which was definitely not what i was looking for. We installed windows XP on it, and everything seemed to be working alright other than the sound, which wasnt too big of a deal for me. Recently I needed to see what kind of GPU i had for a project im working on. I opened up device manager to notice that not only did it not list my GPU ( or any Display Adapter for that matter ), but I have a number of unknow devices including Multimedia "Audio Controller" and "Video Controller (VGA Adaptable)". I opened up the properties and noticed that neither of them had the drivers, so I went to the dell site to get them. That's when I hit my issue. The "newest" OS that dell has drivers on the 8100 for is Windows 2000. They offer no drivers at all for a Dimension 8100 with Windows XP on it. Ive searched around and found that quite a few people are running this computers with XP and limited problems, but nowhere can I find the drivers. Also, since they are listed as unknown devices, Im not sure what kind of cards they are, so I cant go to the manufacture's website either. tldr; anyone know where to get Windows XP drivers for a Dell Dimension 8100?
First you need to download a program called Everest Identifier ...This will let you know what you have in your machine. Have you tried updating the drivers ? Also, allot of windows 2000 drivers will work on XP.. They are both built on the NT frame...
