Dropping connection often

Hey guys, what's up, first post here, i was looking for a spot where someone could help me out.

Every time i am surfing around on myspace, i drop my wireless connection and it kills the connection on all computers , even wired.

I also noticed this happen on sears.com when i would go to check out to buy something on my laptop, bam - drop connection. also on the login screen on orb.com. ver1.0 orb but not 2.0 (weird)

I have to go over and power cycle the router to get everything back.

I am using a netgear wpn824 Firmware Version V2.0.15_1.0.11

laptop has Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Netw

spi firewall is turned on (netgear advised me to turn it off when i was having problems with limewire but did not know if that was a good idea)

I turned off unpn

security - running mac filtering and wpa-tkip.

I am pretty sure it is the router. I can connect to my neighbors network on my laptop with no issues and i also ran my sprint air card all night last night with with no issues.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank's Scott.

Well, I think i have figured it out but do not know if it is a good solution.

I turned off the spi firewall in the router and things seem to be running smoothly.

I do have windows firewall going so i guess thats good enough. that would only happen on the wireless connection though. everything wired ran fine.

can anyone give an explanation for this?

Have you tried upgrading to the latest firmware, if indeed there is one.

From reading your post, does this only happen on certain sites or all? Possible sounds like a line phone line quality issue it disconnects randomly.

Turning the router firewall "off" to run limewire is a bad idea, what you need to do is setup port forwarding to allow limewire to work.

yes this only happens on these certain sites.

I plug the laptop into the router and its fine, go wireless and it gets dropped on cetain sites.

I do have the latest firmware.

I turned off the spi firewall for testing purposes and have not dropped since.

Is running windows firewall good enough for now?

this seeems to be an issue with the netgear wpn 824 because i can log onto neighbors networks without a problem.

I got on the netgear forums and all that someone could say that they have seen some issues with another netgear router and intel wireless adapters.

I even updated to the lates driver for the intel pro/wireless 2200 b/g.

If i type start - run - eventvwr and look for system errors, here is one that popped up around the time of lost connection. don't know if this is the problem or something else.

Most of these random addresses result in failed connections, so a burst of such activity on a computer is a signal that it may have been infected by a malicious program.

Connection-rate limitations may cause certain security tools, such as port scanners, to run more slowly.


User Action
This event is a warning that a malicious program or a virus might be running on the system. To troubleshoot the issue, find the program that is responsible for the failing connection attempts and, if the program might be malicious, close the program as follows.

To close the program

At the command prompt, type
Netstat –no
Find the process with a large number of open connections that are not yet established.
These connections are indicated by the TCP state SYN_SENT in the State column of the Active Connections information.
Note the process identification number (PID) of the process in the PID column.
Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then click Task Manager.
On the Processes tab, select the processes with the matching PID, and then click End Process.
If you need to select the option to view the PID for processes, on the View menu, click Select Columns, select the PID (Process Identifier) check box, and then click OK.

when i did that the pid number was 0 which is system idle process which i don't think is suppose to be terminated.

but i think it just the router, as i turned off spi and it works.

Oh ya, about the limewire, i did do the port forwarding and had got that working.



I guess I run without the spi or am SOl !
