If I plan on gaming and I am putting a gig in my system is single or dual better, and any suggestions would be appreciated.

For gaming, get 2 512mb of RAM identical sticks and your motherboard should use dual channel to increase performance slightly.

dual channel is the capability of single channel on the same RAM basically +50% sometimees in performance give or take a few points, but it does matter if you want the best, and does provide its portion of a good boost

Oddly enough it's a win win situation by getting 2x512Mbs, you wouldn't think it but it's cheaper as Max said.

Dual-channel memory doesn't amount to 2x the performance, more like 10-30%, but it's still a healthy increase for little or no price difference. Now, this is assuming the motherboard is capable of supporting dual-channel memory configurations in the first place.

Yea, even if it isn't twice the performance it is still a win-win situation. I assume this means you're not on your honeymoon B?

Fortunately all socket 939 mother boards support this feature, as well as 775 (heck even some high end socket A boards oddly enough).

I think it was all rushed and chipsets weren't really planning on it, s754 is kind of a budget socket anyway.

It wasn't particularly a budget socket when it came out.

Socket 754 was meant to be the budget socket.
