Single Core - 1xCPU in one Coee(Socket)
Dual Core - 2xCPU in one Core
Core 2 Duo - 2xCPU in 2xCores
 
yeah, what do you mean by old one, what is an old one, like single core, or what are say meaning by "old one" i'd be able to tell you i just don't know what you mean
 
well just in case you didn't, if you are referring to old ones as like Pentium 4's and such then the new processors are made with a finer manufacturing process that makes the circuits smaller so uses less energy and are more efficient, also dual core processors are like having two separate CPU's built into one, so you have two processors in you computer but it looks like there is only one. WWOOO stickey material, HAHA, just kidding, but i hope you understand now, but if not feel free to post back
 
Actually my current system comes with P IV 2.8GHz CPU. I'm going to bye a laptop. Just check the most new ones and almost all comes with dual core CPU. That’s why I'm confusing.
 
yeah, a dual core processor isn't really needed for the average person, but it will come in handy in situations, plus its a really good investment in the future.
 
Well, I'd consider what you're going to do with it first? That will affect what specs you're going to look at. Are you buying this for space concerns or for travel. Battery life, life exending features, and weight are all factors to consider here.

Single Core = 1 Processing Core on 1 Die.
Dual Core = 2 Processing Cores on 1 Die.

(Core 2 Duo is just a brand of dual-core CPU - Core Duo was first, then came Core 2 Duo - what do you mean by 2 x CPU in 2 x Cores? You mean 2 Processing cores on 2 dies? That'd surely mean 1 core per die, which is a Dual CPU Rig rather than a dual-core rig...or am I just confused here?!)

Just need to be careful when using the term 'Core'

Make it clear whether you mean an actual processing core or the processor 'package' itself. (as dual core CPU's have 2 processing cores in one processor 'package')
