I installed a Sony DRU-540A in my Sony computer. It is a DVD/CD rewritable Drive. I am using Nero software. My computer has XP operating system. When I burn 4.7 gb or less of info it takes like 15 hours or so to complete from start to finish. I know that is much too long. Anybody out there have any ideas why it is taking so long? Any help would be appreciated. jimbony

It is maybe an Optorite OEM drive.

What firmware is on the drive actually?

I would try with 8x rated good DVD media and update the burning software too.

I highly doubt it's a firmware issue, I usually only do firmware updates when drives don't work period. Give us your computer specs and we can go from there.

I've recently had problems very slow burning speeds on my laptop. It used to burn fine, then it wound't burn at above 1MB/s and that also meant that DVDs wouldn't play smoothly.

I tried changing DMA settings, but eventually had to reinstall XP.
