I finally got my Mandriva 2006 DVD (Powerpack Ed.) and installed it (Glad to get rid of SuSE).
Overall, i'm very satisfied with the result, it does everything i need it to Except play DVD's.
I set up the repositories, installed the required Codecs and all that but when i try to play a DVD i get these error's in Xine and MPlayer respectively:

Any help would be appreciated :)

    Hey....

Welcome to the club..... with me MPlayer cannot access the dvd (whatever tht means...)
If you do find a solution...please let me know.

    Have you tried VLC?

[ot]I cannot get it because like the :swear: I am, for some bizarr reason, I removed most of my repositories and now cannot seem to be able to add new ones. So I cannot get VLC myself. But that is for another thread.....[/ot]

Apart from making sure you have all the necessary codecs I cannot think what else to do. Can the player actualy play the *.VOB files ? Is it just the DVD it cannot access? Can you play other formats like mpeg or avi?

Try and post your Q on the mandriva club forum.

Make sure that the packages libdvdcss and libdvdread are installed otherwise mpalyer won't play the file.

I haven't tried VLC yet, but i will, thanks.
I can play all other files except DVD's, .VOB files and .WMV files.
This happens on every DVD i try, so im assuming it's a missing Codec or package somewhere along the lines i missed.
I've installed all the libdvd, Xine, MPlayer, Kaffiene, css and win32 stuff but still the same :(

Addis is correct, do as he says! :) Those packages enable Linux software to play encrypted DVDs.

    • libdvdcss – If you plan on watching encrypted DVDs in Linux, you need this.
    • libdvdnav4 – Ditto.
    • libdvdcss2 - “
    • libdvdplay0 - “
    • libdvdcontrol9 - “

...Then play the DVD this way:
