hiya all, i've just being having some problems blanking DVD-RW discs, get no error just fails with nero 6.6.0.12, but when i use CD BunrnerXP 3.0 i get this error:
Writing Error: (3) Error completing disc erase.
The disc could not be erased (1036).
Error Sense Data: SENSE KEY: 3 ASC: 51 ASQ: 0

i think its probably just cheap media,

    WinMe on FAT32
    ASPI layer: 4.71
    DVD-RW: Lite-ON LDW-811S

    trying to burn mandriva

It's difficult to say, but try these suggestions:

Burn a different ISO file. This will determine whether the Mandriva ISO is corrupt or not

    Use a different DVD-RW.

If both experiments fail, perhaps the DVD-RW drive is on it's way out? I don't know, I don't have much experience with DVD-RW

no, the error occurs during the blank proccess, tried another cheap DVD-RW and quick blank successful (a first) then tried to burn mandriva with CDBurnerXP Pro 3 and got error message:

write error (3) error occurred writing dato to disc.
    invalid command field (1022).
error sense data: SENSE KEY: 5 ASC: 24 ASCQ: 0

still thinking its the crappy cheap media

so this http://www.cdburnerxp.se/forum/files/cdburnererror.jpg is the error you are getting. Actually, I was searching on the net and found the same problem in another forum but there is no solution in it. They are saying wait for the new release and hope problems will be fixed in it.

I will search on the net again and will come back to you as soon as I find any solution.

Edit: Just comes into my mind. Do you have a rewritable disc, if yes then use that, I mean some kind of better media. A rewritable is just for a try so that you dont have to throw the disc after use.

yeah thats the error i recieve in CDBurnerXP Pro 3, but in nero it does give me an error at all it just failes with no excuses

does CDXP use nero's burn engine ? because that would explain the error in nero too

yes i do have DVD-RW (i only use DVD-RW media, as its cheaper to rewrite than to keep buying discs)
    thanx

For clarification: is it just the Mandriva ISO you're having trouble with, or everything?
If it's the ISO itself, run an [google]md5sum[/google] on the ISO and check it against the md5sum for the Mandriva ISO.
Have you tried different media? According to CDFreaks, Verbatim is supposed to be pretty good. I got a pack of 48x Verbatims and haven't had any burning issues since. I also use TDK DVD-R disks w/o issue.

no, its not mandriva, i was having problems just blanking CD-RW / DVD-RW

i'm presuming its cos of cheap media, so cheap nobody will put their name to it, i'm going to get some TDK or Verbatim DVD-RW's unless you can suggest any better discs (i only use RW CD'S & DVD'S, as i can't afford -r discs)

i've found a work around, basically i swaped CD & DVD disc's around cos i was using a DVD-RW as a boot disc for my partitioning software (less than 5 Mb) so i burnt my partitioning software to a CD to a disc with a scuff near the middle of the disc

(proving that CD & DVD are written from the outside of the disc to the inside of the disc)

so that leaves me with using a CD i thought was dead, and a (hopefully working) DVD-RW and so on . . .
